Anything From Music to Videos to Movies

iPods are multipurpose devices in the sense that they are not only auditory but also visual to the extent that they don't only cater for the downloading of music, but also to the downloading of movies. With the invention of DVDs this meant that people didn't really have that much of an incentive to book a ticket to go to the cinema in order to enjoy a movie. This further increased the number of people watching movies on their laptops. An event which was known for bringing people together in a public sphere shrinked to bringing people together in homes and in a more private sphere. Further yet, the already smaller sphere was still to become even smaller. More and more people were watching movies on their laptops which is a more personal and an individual activity. Now that movies can be downloaded on iPods it just further emphasises the decreasing viewership in terms of individual viewing of movies on their personal iPods. With this comes the potential for a decrease in the number of people who make an effort to go to the cinema. Going to the cinema is no longer a phenomenon but rather it is slowly becoming a "thing of the past." The appreciation of the cinema is slowly on the decrease and the phenomenon of downloading is on the frightening increase. With having recently heard that Timbaland is planning on taking out a CD that is only to be downloaded instead of being bought at music stores, only emphasises the decrease of buying CDs. But I must commend Timbaland on his ability to cover all his bases. This is certainly something other artists can take a look at because it just goes to show that downloading is certain to be around for a long time to come. Vidoes fall under this category. All sorts of videos are just as easily downloadable as music is and this proves that iPods are an excellent example of devices with a variety of entertainment just at a click of a button.

IPods are amazing, they can store so many different types of media - depending on the size of your memory of course.

I have seen people watching movies on their ipods in airports. They are like a personal cinema, right there in your pocket and available for viewing anytime. However I don't think I could sit and watch a movie on such a small screen, I much prefer going to the movies - also its a chance to get out and see people and friends. Don't know why people would chose to rather sit at home everytime!

I think that downloading artists albums is a much better idea, as it would probably be cheaper and its easier to obtain. In the end, I never use the CD's I buy, I always end up making mixes if I make CD's.

I agree with Faye, IPods truly are amazing little inventions and if one has a big enough memory it can become a personal portable hardrive where you are able to plug it in to a laptop and watch a movie (or whatever it may be) on a bigger screen! This also makes the swopping of music and movies even easier as you can just transfer data from one computer to another. I think that most people do still enjoy the excitement of seeing an anticipated film on the big screen - I hope that never goes away!
